In response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, which is supported by Belarus, numerous businesses and organizations in Europe, North America, Australasia, and elsewhere are boycotting Russia and Belarus. More than 1,000 businesses have withdrawn or divested themselves of Russia as of July 2, 2022, according to the Yale School of Management, either in response to sanctions or in protest of Russian actions.
Following Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, the majority of sanctioned nations began imposing additional sanctions to punish Russia for invading the entirety of Ukraine, a move that Russian President Vladimir Putin had long planned. Despite the fact that sanctions against Russia had no effect on many businesses, many of them decided to cut ties with the country because of public pressure, in opposition to the actions of the Russian government, or both. Institutions in Ukraine have stated that these measures are required immediately.
