Located in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein is a German-speaking microstate. It is the sixth-smallest nation in the world[13]. The prince of Liechtenstein leads a monarchy that is semi-constitutional.

Austria is to the north and east, and Switzerland is to the west and south of Liechtenstein. With a population of 38,749 as of 2019, it is Europe's fourth-smallest country, with a land area of just over 160 square kilometers (62 square miles).[14] Its capital is Vaduz, and Schaan is the largest municipality. Additionally, it is the smallest nation to border two nations. Between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein has two landlocked countries.

When adjusted for purchasing power parity, Liechtenstein's economy has one of the highest gross domestic products per person in the world. The country has a strong financial sector in Vaduz. It used to be known as a billionaire tax haven, but it is no longer on any official lists of countries that don't cooperate with tax havens. Liechtenstein is a mountainous country that is part of the Alpine region and is popular for winter sports.

The European Free Trade Association, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations are all represented in Liechtenstein. It is a member of both the Schengen Area and the European Economic Area, but it is not a member of the European Union because it was not designed with microstates in mind. It has monetary and customs union with Switzerland.
