The largest island in the Northern Mariana Islands, a US commonwealth in the western Pacific Ocean, is Saipan. The population of Saipan was 43,385 in 2020, down 10% from its 2010 count of 48,220, according to estimates from the United States Census Bureau.
The village of Capitol Hill on the island is home to the Commonwealth government's legislative and executive branches, while the judicial branch is based in the village of Susupe. Most publications name Saipan the Commonwealth's capital because the entire island is run by a single municipality.
Ramon Camacho will be mayor of Saipan in 2023, and Arnold Palacios will be governor of the Northern Mariana Islands.
